Airborne laser (red and green)

Airborne lasers (lidar) are active systems that are mounted on aircraft or helicopters. Lidar is a ranging system, measuring red or green lreflectance and distance of a target from the sensor. In both instruments the sensor transmits and measures a response, using visble to infrared wavelengths for lidar, often referred to green and red lidar.

Green lidar is more commonly used in coastal application to determine water depth, where red lidar is used only for terrestrial application.

Interpretation and analysis of these data sets requires a completely different approach to standard optical image data.
