Field based

Field based measurements, of EMR (e.g. sunlight or sea-surface-temperature) or bio-geo-physical properties are collected using specialised instruments and survey techniques.

In a marine environment this can be:

  • Underwater through snorkelling or diving, or using an Automated Underwater Vehicle (AUV).
  • Water surface through, where drop cameras or other instruments are lowered from the site of the boat but still connected to the boat.
  • Above water surface through, airborne platforms that or have people conducting visual observations (helicopter or plane), or from unmanned automated vehicle capturing imagery of the surface.

In coastal environments this can be:

  • Water surface through, where drop cameras or other instruments are lowered from the site of the boat but still connected to the boat.
  • Above water surface through, airborne platforms that or have people conducting visual observations (helicopter or plane), or from unmanned automated vehicle capturing imagery of the surface.

Summary of field-based methods see pdf.
