Forest Landscape Restoration (FLR) Tools Workshop

IUFRO Conference on Forest Landscape Restoration, 14-19 May 2007, Seoul, Republic of Korea

A workshop on tools for forest landscape restoration is planned. We invite participants to give case studies on tools used to assist in the planning and assessment of FLR strategies. Particularly tools that brings people together to identify, negotiate and implement practices that restore an agreed optimal balance of the ecological, social and economic benefits of forests and trees within a broader pattern of land uses. Read more about FLR...

The key issues we wish to explore are:

  • How to identify priority areas for reforestation?
  • How to decide how much reforestation to carry out?
  • How to balance the need to reforest cleared land to conserve biodiversity and restore ecological functioning with the need to also improve human livelihoods?

Workshop discussions (10-15 minutes) will make comparisons between approaches and possibility offer a syntheses between several approaches.

We invite participants and interested groups to contribute case studies for discussion at the workshop. A guideline for case studies is given below. Please contact David Lamb if you wish to add your case study to the list below.
