Coastal Remote Sensing Toolkit

Aim of the toolkit
The aim of this toolkit is to show managers, scientists and technicians working in coastal environments how images collected from satellites and aircraft (remote sensing) can be used to map and monitor changes to indicators of coastal ecosystem health.

Coastal environments
We recognise that "coastal environments" encompass a broad range of ecosystems, however, this toolkit focuses on coastal water bodies, seagrass and coral reefs, and mangroves. A priority for future work is to extend the toolkit to cover all other coastal ecosystems.

Passive remote sensing focus
This toolkit focuses on sensors that measure reflected sunlight (passive systems), for more detail on active systems (e.g. acoustic technologies) please refer to www.coastalzone.org.au/cwhm/Toolkit/index.html
