How to use the toolkit

• The toolkit is presented in a format that assumes you want to work out how to map or monitor a part of the coastal-marine environment. A flowchart is provided for this site.
• It is essential that you first be aware of your mapping needs – this is done by completing a table of mapping needs. This will help you select the most appropriate data and technique to use for your application.
• Once you have completed the table, you can use two options to explore how remote sensing can be used for mapping and monitoring your coastal environment:  
  Graphic sequence: This sequence links the environmental variable to be mapped and the type of environment to suitable data sets and processing techniques.
 

Text and table sequence: This consists of a linked series of tables detailing the information used to support the graphically driven sequence. It guides you through a standard set of questions that would be used to determine the environmental variables to be mapped, and the suitable remotely-sensed data sets and mapping procedures.
